2 SASSA Scams You Should Be Aware of

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued a warning to its beneficiaries about the scams that are doing the rounds on social media. The scammers are targeting the beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, and they are trying to obtain their details. SASSA has warned that these scams are fraudulent and that beneficiaries should not respond to them.

A fake post is circulating on social media claiming that SASSA cards are on sale. The scammers claim to be working for SASSA and inform SASSA clients about the cards that are on special, the post includes a mobile number for phone calls and WhatsApp. However, this is a scam. SASSA has not announced any special offers for its cards. The mobile number in the post is fake. Do not contact the number or share the post.

“Please be aware of the below scam. SASSA services are FREE of charge”, warned SASSA.

Another scam making rounds on social media is a post claiming that SASSA has announced new grant amounts for 2024. The post includes a link to an official-looking SASSA website. However, this is a scam. SASSA has not announced any new grant amounts for 2024. The link provided in the post is also fake and leads to a phishing website. Do not click on the link or share the post.

Social grant clients are warned against the below FAKE information which does not come from SASSA”, warned SASSA.

SASSA beneficiaries need to be vigilant and If you come across any suspicious posts or messages on social media, report them to SASSA immediately. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from scammers.
